Interesting Info on Clean Tech

I'm a HUGE fan of WIRED Magazine, always have been. The editors are consistently on the leading edge of technology issues and trends, weeks or even months before they hit the mainstream media. It gives tech PR folks like us a leg up.

This month the cover story was titled "Fixing the Grid" by Brendan I. Koerner.

Koerner does an excellent job of explaining, in layman's terms, the issues facing the United States as we begin to upgrade the national power grid infrastructure. This is obviously a major focus in the media since President Obama has allocated $40 Billion of his Stimulus package to funding an upgrade of our current dilapidated power grid.

It was a little disheartening to read about the regional politics that stand in the way of alternative energy source proliferation but I digress. What really peaked my interest was Koerner's discussion of the software and technology solutions that will be woven into the modern power grid. These are areas that Merritt Group is already exploring for potential new business, which is quite exciting.

Keeping with the environmentally friendly theme of this post, here is another interesting bit of news. It comes in the form of a video clip from a BBC weekly automotive show called Top Gear.

The video is about a new electric car from Honda, called the FCX Clarity. It is an interesting video for gear heads and non-gear heads alike. The Clarity is the first electric production car sold that runs on liquid hydrogen, rather than as a plug-in electric or hybrid. Best of all, its only emission is...water. The Clarity will only be sold in California at first but I don't think it will be long before we start seeing some here on the east coast too.

I hope you enjoy these two interesting bits of clean tech info!
