Merritt Group Named One of Washingtonian Magazine’s “50 Great Places to Work” for Third Consecutive Time

Unique Culture Distinguishes DC-area Communications Agency Focused on the Technology, Government and Healthcare Sectors

Merritt Group, Inc., a nationally recognized communications firm that helps move markets for forward-thinking companies, today announced that it was named one of Washingtonian magazine’s “50 Great Places to Work” for the third consecutive time. Merritt Group was also chosen for this biennial award by Washingtonian in 2005 and 2007.

Interesting and challenging work, competitive pay and benefits, work-life balance and a collegial staff were among the factors considered by the magazine for this award. Other factors included the company’s commitment to charity, its financial position, and the recognition and respect given to employees.

“This honor is a testament to Merritt Group’s innovative, collaborative culture and reflects upon the high level of talent our company strives to attract and retain,” said Ben Merritt, CEO, Merritt Group.  “We’ve always made it a top priority to foster an environment that is both fun, challenging and rewarding for our employees. Our culture is the foundation that enables us to strive for client excellence and produce some of the best results in the business.”

Employee-centered initiatives reflect Merritt Group’s emphasis on personal and professional development for each of its staff members.  Regardless of position, each employee takes advantage of career planning sessions and quarterly progress reviews.  These programs offer invaluable mentoring and coaching to help staffers accomplish their goals.  Monthly presentations engage employees by teaching helpful practitioner skills, and a book club meets twice a year to discuss the latest industry and business trends that might impact clients.  Company management also encourages all employees to participate in professional and networking associations, covering membership costs where necessary.

Merritt Group’s outstanding reward and recognition programs are built to motivate, train and retain its talented team.  Employee appreciation week, happy hours, offsite teambuilding events and cash bonuses for superior work are among the many perks of working at Merritt Group.  The office’s energizing environment also offers fresh fruit and snacks, a fitness center, basketball court and “chill out” room to keep staff healthy and happy.

Commitment to community is a core value of the firm, and employees take advantage of four paid days off to volunteer each year.  Through pro bono work and a corporate matching program, Merritt Group has contributed to numerous local nonprofits by helping those in need.

Professional organizations have also recognized Merritt Group for its exceptional devotion to clients.  Both PRWeek and PR News magazines named the company a finalist for 2009 “Small Agency of the Year,” and for the third year in a row, Inc. magazine designated Merritt Group as one of the fastest-growing private companies in America as part of the Inc. 5000.
